Breast Cancer Awareness from Our Owner

Trust in The Power of PINK Breast Cancer Foundation to make your journey through breast cancer easier and more bearable. Our founder, Ilene Jones, founded this breast cancer foundation to spread awareness and help other breast cancer patients and survivors like she did for her twin sister, Irene, and her friends in Joplin, Missouri.

From Our Founder
When Irene was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005, I was a complete basket case because I knew nothing about breast cancer. I cried all day every day at work and at home. As I researched, I learned more about breast cancer and started to feel better. For the most part, I only cried when Irene received bad news. Now, I am not crying at all because I've decided to be a positive influence in her life.

About US

Our support page will let you know how you can help people in need of kindness.

I started attending functions with her and got to know other breast cancer survivors in the Joplin area. Watching Irene be an inspiration to others helped me tremendously. I planned my first big event, The "2008 POWER of PINK Fashion Show," which is an annual event put on by the hospital that was cancelled this year due to lack of manpower and funds. We had 10 survivors as models and a total of 80 people in attendance. It wasn't so much the show that told me this was my calling, it was something that happened to me before the show began.

I found myself alone a couple of hours before the start of the show when a stranger approached me. This man was not looking well. Personally, I thought he was looking for the ER. When I offered to help him, he said that he was too late. As it turned out, he drove nonstop from Arizona when he found out his mother was dying of cancer. She died an hour before he got to the hospital. He told me that he knew she was sick but just never realized how sick. He said, "If I had only known, I would have done things differently. I would have been here sooner. Now, I have no way of telling her that I love her. I didn't even get the chance to tell her good-bye." I decided right then and there that my goal was to spread breast cancer awareness. I do not want others to be "too late" because they didn't know.

Cancer Awareness Today

During this past year, I am learning that many of the patients we work with are only needing a place to vent or someone to chat with.  www.CancerAwarenessToday.com is an online community and a place to turn if someone wants to send in a blog or just chat with someone.  We encourage people to check out this website to discuss whatever it is you want or to see if there is a blog in which they would want to respond.

This is NOT just for breast cancer.  This is set up for patients and survivors of any kind of cancer.  It is also available for those not affected with cancer but either know someone who has been affected or for those people who just care enough to help by listening and responding.
